Texas A&M University College of Architecture

Letter from Jorge Vanegas

Dean, College of Architecture, Texas A&M University, USA

Howdy and welcome!

On behalf of Texas A&M President Michael K. Young and the College of Architecture, I am very pleased to welcome you as our guests to Texas A&M University.

With almost 3,200 students, 170 faculty, and 70 staff members, our college is the one of the largest colleges of its kind in the U.S. We are home to undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture, construction science, landscape architecture and urban planning, and visualization. We are known for, among other things, our research in the areas of hazards planning, health design, historic preservation, and sustainability. This is a special year for us, as we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the creation of the College of Architecture.

Our college is committed to a vision of providing, maintaining, and continuously enhancing the quality of life for people, the quality of place, and the quality of human endeavors within the natural, built, and virtual environments. President Young has outlined three pillars upon which we build our efforts: transformational learning; second, transformational discovery and innovation; and third, engagement and impact. Your conference and the work you do, individually and collectively, is aligned with this vision. We are delighted to host a conference that will highlight the research that influences how communities across the world will adapt to the changing climate.

We sincerely hope that, in addition to enjoying the quality of the presentations, discussions, and interactions that will take place within the excellent program that will be delivered at the conference, you will also enjoy our Texan Aggie hospitality, and will leave with a better appreciation of our College, of our University, and of our State of Texas.

Gig’Em!
